Good Swimming Tips
Use these tips and suggestions to improve your swimming technique.
Here are some tips and rules to remember:
- Streamlining!
- Power into your turns and remember you can hold your breath longer than you think.
- Remember your skills - starts and turns - they will save you valuable seconds that could win you the race.
- Don't slow down at the end - keep your head down and power into the finish. Keep those legs kicking!
- Don't go too deep when you start a race - you want to be under the surface but not scraping the bottom of the pool.
Some race rules:
- Front crawl and back crawl one hand on the wall to finish - on your back if you’re doing back crawl.
- Breaststroke and butterfly two hands on the wall at the same time to finish.
- At turns for races of two or more lengths you must touch the wall with two hands at the same time for breaststroke and butterfly.
Actually said during a recent training session:
Coach asks: "What can you tell me about the
back-stroke?"
Swimmer replies:
"You do it on your back."
Coach says: "I never pushed you!"
Coach says: "You can breath when you have finished training!"
